This program is a perfect fit for any student who wants to have fun and learn the basics of chess! Designed to help students learn the fundamentals of chess including basic piece movement, checkmating patterns and other foundational principles of the game in a dynamic and engaging environment. Some of the documented benefits of chess instruction are improved critical thinking skills, increased math and verbal test scores and more. Students spend the first part of camp becoming proficient in piece movement and other foundational game principles. Once mastered, students learn basic checkmating patterns, chess opening ideas and play in tournament-style chess games.
